On our Oregon trip years ago, A to Z was our go-to pinot noir for everyday wine. We really liked Lange, despite the long, rocky road to visit them. Imagine my surprise when I saw a Lange pinot in our local Safeway! Grabbed a bottle as well as an A to Z. We were not disappointed. (Prices are at the winery. Safeway’s prices are lower.)
The A to Z Oregon Pinot Noir ($22) has a mild cranberry fragrance. Bright acidity on the palate is followed by lots of red fruit that emphasizes strawberries. Quaffable and still a go-to wine.
Lange’s 2021 Willamette Valley “Classique” ($32) is a more complex creature. Lush aromas feature black raspberries, black cherries and a hint of forest floor. The palate opens with more black raspberries and a nice mouthfeel. The mid-palate is even more black cherries and black raspberries. A nice long finish with silky tannins make this beauty worth every penny.
